About Karl F. Stefan
The items set for consignment are part of my grandfather’s estate, Karl F. Stefan. He was a 3rd District Congressman from the State of Nebraska (1935-1952). Unfortunately, he died in office. He was originally from Czechoslovakia.
Karl Stefan began his career as a radio broadcaster in Norfolk, Nebraska which ultimately led to his career in politics. Karl Stefan was fluent in several languages which added in his communication skills on the radio and politics. He was member of then-named; “Congressional Air Policy Committee,” during WWII which made possible appropriations to expand aviation and saving the pilot training program. (Seems strange by today’s standards to have such a committee.) An airport, located in Norfolk, Nebraska, is named the; “Karl F. Stefan” airport for his service in congress for Nebraska. At the time of my grandfather’s death (prior to my birth), photos were taken of the memorial. One black and white photo shows a picture of an up and coming politician; Richard M. Nixon. Photos also show my grandfather with Director of the FBI, J. Edgar Hoover.
